Wioniq expands in Water Metering - signs framework agreement with Sinfra

Wideco, which now operates under the name Wioniq, secured a major procurement last year and signed a framework agreement with Sinfra (Swedish Purchasing Center for Infrastructure). This made the company one of ten selected suppliers in the field of smart water meters. Wioniq's (Widecos's) comprehensive solution combined hardware—advanced water meters—with the innovative digital platform WISION (now the Wioniq platform), enabling real-time monitoring directly on mobile devices.

"We were pleased to once again be selected by Sinfra for a new framework agreement," said Dan Wärja, then Commercial Manager at Wioniq Nordic.

Sinfra simplifies procurement for its members by pre-negotiating favorable terms and prices with suppliers. This allows municipalities to easily order products and services without conducting their own procurement processes. The framework agreement gives Wioniq access to over 600 potential customers, including municipal water utilities across Sweden.

"Winning this procurement is a huge opportunity for Wioniq and a sign that we are on the right track with our strategy. We had been a reliable Sinfra supplier in the district heating sector for a long time, and this allows us to deepen our collaboration in the water segment and especially within water metering," says Karl-Johan Wirfalk, MD, Wioniq Nordic.

Water Meters Visualized Directly on Mobile Devices

Wioniq's smart water meters allowed users to monitor water flow and total consumption while detecting and alerting them to potential leaks or abnormally high flows. The Wioniq platform visualization tool replaced traditional analog meters, offering a seamless digital experience with real-time data, giving users full control over water flow. The meter easily integrated into customers' existing systems and was mounted on a water meter console. It could then be connected to the Wioniq platform via LoRaWAN technology.

"By tapping the NFC chip on the meter, users could quickly and easily access real-time data directly on their mobile or browser, without needing to install an app. This provided full control over water consumption and optimized usage, promoting both sustainability and efficiency," explained Dan Wärja.

A Significant Deal with Great Potential

The framework agreement with Sinfra was valued at 500 million SEK and opened the door to many new customers through the organization's members. To handle the expected growth, we hired a new salesperson in December, focusing on the Smart Water sector.

"This marks an important milestone in our efforts to develop water monitoring and visualization solutions. We are well-prepared and ready to deliver our solution. Our platform and stragetgy is in place, and it is just a matter of getting out into the market and talking to customers," says Dan Wärja.

The agreement took effect on October 1 and lasts for two years, with the possibility of a two-year extension.

This achievement position Wideco exceptionally well for its merger with Slatek, Inter Act, and iReal, forming what is now Wioniq. The potential that the Sinfra agreement brought to Wideco is now carried forward into Wioniq—one of many reasons why Wioniq has a bright future ahead.
